A few decades ago, the amount of news was quite meager. Those who have the ability to access information, possess a good memory and have logical reasoning will grasp the problem quite firmly.
In the Internet age, the amount of information is too much. Sometimes, before understanding what has happened, things have already change. And so it goes on…
In order not to feel lost, you must know what information to choose. But, even with the most rigorous screening, the amount of information is enormous. What now?
Further research shows that the structure of information always consists of three relatively separate parts:
1/ Describe and recount the situation;
2/ Analyze, explain, predict; and
3/ Propose, recommend.
The following will further analyze the composition of each of the above parts in the existing information forest.
1- Description of the current situation
This is the root element of information, it describes, recounts, lists what happened (or is happening). Presented through words, pictures or writing. Simply the communication of what is seen, heard, and received.
This section describes the problem before delving into the underlying reason. The outside world is often not quite the same as the individual’s imagination, speculation, and understanding.
Reading through this piece of information, one needs to be objective, devoid of emotions before giving a subjective opinion.
It is not easy, everyone has emotions that interfere in the process of receiving information. Here, EQ (Emotional Quotient, Emotional Intelligence) is demonstrated, also known as the ability to perceive the outside world with what is available, sometimes far from the individual’s wishes or expectations.
Much information exists solely for the purpose of conveying the facts. To readers who have not fully grasped the issue, this is a valuable part, as it helps to access the original information.
In addition, the author is also an individual, so absolute objectivity cannot be guaranteed. Especially when they intentionally fabricate.
The only way is to consult many different sources. Independence. Compare. Clear thinking to draw the most realistic picture (possible).
2- Analysis, explanations, evaluations
In this part, the author drops the “me” into the matter, containing personal feelings.
Through praise or criticism.
Deeper is analysis, comparison, contrast. State the different reasons why things happened.
Assess the impact of the issue on stakeholders, social classes, and countries.
Predict the direction of events. Offer different scenarios in the future.
There are experts who provide explanations, comments, predictive analysis. For those who have grasped the problem, but the ability to understand has not yet come, this part is very useful. Allows further insight from existing information.
All of the above represent a personal assessment of a particular incident. Phenomena are often objective, assessments are subjective. Especially when the writer does not fully understand the essence of the problem, he can make comments and explanations – sometimes not entirely reasonable.
3- Suggestions, recommendations
All information contains some implication depending on its author. In this section, the author gives suggestions, recommendations and decisions that need to be implemented.
These recommendations are imposed upon the reader, but it helps those who know and understand the problem, while not sure how to act. Or for those who are leaders, leading positions, their function is to find action solutions for society to consider.
Depending on the level of comprehension, logical thinking ability, or interests, the author will make suggestions of different quality. Readers should exercise caution.
In short, depending on the needs, readers will know how to choose what information types are suitable for themselves in each case. In other words, individual needs and interests will decide which part of the information to focus on.
…
The objective of the article is to provide a methodology for processing information.
The flow of information is directed by the interests of the author. Therefore, the above 3 parts are often presented alternately, intermingled with each other, but not clearly separated. Readers need to focus to clearly identify the above 3 contents for their own needs.
The notion of the importance of personal interests are presented in a different perspective in articles about us.
