I decided to write a blog. My friend whispered: “Why are you so arrogant? Writing a blog in three languages?! You think you are better than everyone else?” Slipped of the tounge, I quoted Ernest Hemmingway – “I don’t think. I know.” And he pissed at me til now.

Flashing back. When I just got forced to quit my job in the early of 2013, I met my friend who I really admire and asked for some advice. He instructed: “Talented people will find a job for themselves. If they can’t find a job, they will teach others. Worse, they will be consultants.”

Til now, 9 years later, I don’t even have a job. I can’t even teach any courses because I can’t be accepted in any schools. Sometimes, the realities of my financial advice went against my prediction. My friend whispered: “I know many people like you. You can’t be “Mr. Big”. But you don’t want to be an “Mr. Average ”. Just…. “Mr. Nobody.”

So, I switched to writing. I already prepared mentally that if noone reading my articles, I will be my own reader. And I suddenly realized that it doesn’t matter what the job is, the ability to write clearly, cohesively, and logically is an important and priceless skill. It is a process of connecting thoughts and words. To write clearly, you must think clearly. Two processes intertwined each other tightly. The act of writing forces writers to filter and organize ideas/ thoughts. Writer must choose lengthly, inconcise thoughts and reorganize them in logical orders.

Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, shared that in the beginning of every important meeting, he requested the presenter to write and print his/her presentation (about 5-6 pages). Then, Jeff Bezos reserves 30 minutes for everyone to read the presentation.

Writing ability proves problem understanding.

Reading ability proves new concept understanding.

But why I must write in three languages: Vietnamese – English – Russian?

People who logically or emotionally inclined, if the information is missing, they easily conclude problems inaccurately. When the information is not fully laid out, many ideas and solutions can be unreasonable. Understanding a problem, an event in different languages can improve the comprehension of our understanding and provide different perspective from other people. Vietnamese-English-Russian help me to understand the world in a balance and objective way. The feel of a language can help readers to grasp and understand the message of the writer, not only the literal meanings.

Since then, a personal thoughts were filtered and converted into words. Vietnamese are quite complex and complicated. Many words that seem like synonyms, but they portray different level of meaning. Using them to portray my thoughts exactly is not easy. It requires greate understanding of Vietnamese vocacbularies. Many Vietnamese words, when translated to English, they all can be translated as one word. For example, in Vietnamese “Anh, chị, cô, bác, ông, bà, cậu, chúng mày,…” can be translated into “You”. The simplicity of English help writer to understand the thoughts more clearly. When translating the thoughts into Russian, a language that I have been used continuously for 15 years, my words and syntax is once again refined…

After clearly understand a problem, or just funished writing an article, I always feel the indescribable satisfaction.

Sometimes, the satisfaction, the feelings, the high is like the feeling when I got buzzed/drunk.

Or sometimes it’s like I just watched a football game.

Or sometimes it’s like I just listened to a symphony.

Or sometimes it’s like I just admire a piece of artwork…

Or sometimes it’s like I just cleared out the inventory, when I was selling clothes at the stadium market 30 years ago…
