Discussing the question: Why?

Discussing the question: What to do?

Discussing understanding

Discussing benefits

In Summary: We often ask ourselves “Why?” when we see other people’s behavior beyond our own thinking and planning. We have to accept that because they are doing what they want and can do. As for ourselves, we should ask “What to do?”. To determine what to do , we need to rely on the knowledge of three factors: what I want do – what I can do – what I need to do. To understand, besides listening and reading, take enough time to reflect. This last article talks about understanding the Benefits of related subjects will help grasp the essence of the problem. And use analytical thinking to make wise choices at critical moments.

By chance. I met a senior investor whom I greatly admire. He asked a few questions about why some companies on the stock market made decisions that were somewhat difficult to understand. I replied: “You are a financial expert, why are you asking me? But I think if you have a (large enough) stake there, you will understand immediately without any explanation. But if you just stand outside, no matter how smart you are, it is difficult to imagine it all.”

Benefits- that is the most natural motivation to understand essence of the problem. When the right is attached to blood and flesh, sometimes no instructions are needed.

Answering the question of why that happened can be done by looking at who is benefiting from it. Because “If it has happened, someone must have benefited.”

Benefits here are understood in a broad sense, not just money or material possessions. It can also be emotions, jobs, future, dreams, lifestyles… More encompassing than that is the right to express oneself, the right to decide according to personal opinions.

When writing a blog, the Vietnamese words “Chúng tôi” (We – more small community) and “Chúng ta” (we all – more wider community) are different, but when translated into English or Russian, there is only one word, “We or Мы!”

Suddenly, the interests of “we” are very different from those of “we all”. When not clearly distinguished, confusion and contradictions are easy arise.

“Chúng ta” (we all – more wider community) have almost 8 billion people living together on earth with many of the same interests.

“Chúng tôi” (we – more small community) is a narrower term. It could be a continent, or a group of people who share the same ideology. Or smaller alliances, or nations, races. Different “we” will have different interests. In development, it leads to cooperation, competition, or antagonism.

For someone, a small house in a corner of the street is the pinnacle of satisfaction. For someone else, the minimum living space must be a large castle, with a vast forest in front and a river flowing into the sea on the side… It’s sad when someone’s house obstructs someone else’s view…

To understand the situation, measuring only through personal interests is not enough. One must understand the rights of others. Especially of those who hold decision-making power.

The history of humanity has been accompanied by the struggle for property through bloody wars. We are all in this together, but at the same time, we are also separate. Each of us uses our own historical measuring stick that is most advantageous to us, whether it’s from a few hundred years ago, a few thousand years ago, or just a few decades ago.

The “we” in “we all” when encountering the competition for survival often go in 3 directions.

1. Take a step back, receive the gift.

2. Fight to keep all that is there.

3. Choose to keep the core interests, accept the loss.

Even if we choose option 3, each of “we” has our own priorities. There is no absolute right or wrong. It is all a consequence of choosing what to keep and what to give up, along with assessing the overall feasibility and cost.
